“Deacon, please touch me, put me out of my misery.” She begged. Her scent is filling the room, her arousal a sweet smell that tests my control. My wolf whined begging me to take her, to taste her. It’s taking all my strength not to just pounce on her and join us as one immediately. She might be aroused, but she isn’t ready to see my wolf side yet. When she lies down on the bed and spreads her legs wide, giving me a view of her glistening pussy I have to move away from her. Standing up, I close my eyes and suck in a breath, I try to control myself, but her scent is overwhelming and my need to mark her is strong. She can feel my struggle; I feel her worry through our connection. I tense as she gets off the bed and grips my hand in hers. Linking her fingers with mine, she gives my hand a squeeze. I stare into her eyes and hers widen as she gets a look at mine. I know I must look frightening; my wolf is pushing forwards trying to escape so he can claim her.

“Deacon, you’ve got this.” she said in a strong voice, there was no fear there.

I took a deep breath. “It’s your first time and I’m afraid I will cause you pain.”

“You won't ever do that. I don’t want you to hold back. I want you. All of you.”

“You don’t know what you’re asking.” I ground out.

“Yes I do. I feel you in here,” she tapped her temple. “You’re trying to suppress your wolf but I’m telling you to stop. I’m not scared of you. I don’t believe you will hurt me. I ache for you and I know you ache for me.”

My body relaxed at her words. I can feel the truth in them, sense her frustration and I made a decision. She doesn’t see me move, I’m too fast to track for the human eye. She gasps as I lift her and position her at the end of the bed, with her stomach across the mattress and her knees on the floor. I crowd her, spreading my legs and trapping hers between them.

“Remember that I will never hurt you.” I growled.

  She nodded her breathing erratic.

I caressed her arse, my hand slipping between her legs to test her readiness. She whimpered softly and I part her thighs, pushing my cock into her pussy slowly. My hands grip her hips, forcing her to stay still, to take me.

“I’m going to make you feel so good.” I promised.

  “You already do.” She whispered.

I start moving faster, her moans spurring me on. I lift up slightly so I can slip my hand underneath her body and find her bundle of nerves. I rub her hard as I move my hips in sync. She started to squirm, her hands fisting the sheets and then she screamed my name. I pulled my hand away as she goes limp, the urge to mark her as mine is overwhelming, and I lean down, my mouth opens and I grip her shoulder with my teeth. My wolf howled as I bit her, my teeth sinking into her skin, she flinched, and before I can worry that I’ve hurt her, she groans loudly, her body pushing back into mine. The taste of her blood on my tongue makes my cock grow harder and I fuck her faster, hearing her scream once more, as my hips move at super speed and I finally find my release. I try to keep my weight off her as my body relaxes, using my elbows to do that, I gently pull my mouth away from her shoulder and lick the mark clean. Knowing that it will scar, that she will carry my mark for the rest of her life has me hardening again, but I gently pull out of her. She has to be sore and I would never put my needs before hers.

  “Deacon?” she said sleepily.

  “Yes, baby?”

“I can see inside your head.”

  “What do you see?”

“I see your fear that you’ll lose control.”

“I told you I was worried but somehow I feel at peace now. I have hope that everything will work out.”

“Yes you told me, but I didn’t realise how much worry you actually felt. No wonder you ran from me.”

  “I was scared for you.”

“I know, but now you trust yourself.”

“I know in my heart that what I feared will never come true. I will never lose control and harm you.” I lifted her into my arms and headed for the bathroom. Seating her on the cabinet, I reached into the shower and turned the water on. I make sure the water is warm before picking her up and walking into the shower. I dropped her to her feet, holding her around the waist when she stumbled slightly. She looked up, her hair wet from the water and I smile at how cute she is.

“I’m glad you are at peace now.” She grabbed a washcloth and poured some shower gel on it, moving closer so we were almost touching, she rubbed the cloth along my bare chest. “When you bit me, my whole body felt on fire. It was the most amazing feeling.”

“For me also. It’s a relief to have my mark on you, I may not be able to shift anymore, but my wolf sure was trying.”

  “Why can’t you shift?”

“I lost the ability to shift when I was bitten. I can communicate with my wolf, but up until today I haven’t felt in sync with him.”

“I’m sorry for what you went through.” She said. I hear the tears in her voice and her pain is strong.

“I’ve come to terms with it now. I only wish it hadn’t taken me so long.”

“The pain you felt...” She swallowed. “I could see it all and it hurt me, it made me so upset to see you that way.”

“I’m sorry you did. I would have spared you that memory if I could have.” She shook her head. I watched a tear slip down her cheek. “Milly, don’t cry, please.”

“I just can’t bear the thought of you in so much pain.”

“I don’t feel pain anymore. Once our mating bond is stronger neither will you to a certain degree.”

  “I won’t?”

“No. You’ll have my healing ability like any shifter mate, but because of my being a hybrid you’ll receive the power to sense danger before it reaches you making it so you are hard to injure.”

She laughed and the sound is a welcome relief. “It all sounds so ridiculous. Like something out of a book.”

“Sometimes it feels that way to me too, but I’m afraid, baby, that it’s real life. Can you live with that?”

“It’s a bit late to ask me now we are mated.” She grinned. “Besides something tells me if I wasn’t ok with it and I tried to run, it wouldn’t take you five seconds to track me down.”

I chuckled. “I wouldn’t lose you in the first place. Now we are mated I can find you anywhere.”

“I think I would be able to find you just as easy.”

“Through our bond you will know where I am and also sense how I’m feeling.”

“Will you come running if I’m scared?”

  “You can bet on it.”

“What about if I just miss you?” she smiled.

“Then I will find you and make you feel better.” I smirked. Her cheeks heat as she realised what I meant. I kissed her cheek before taking the washcloth from her. I cleaned her gently, liking the fact that she let me do it. Her whole body is submissive to me and it calms my wolf to know she will let us take care of her. I quickly soap her up then turn her so I can wash her hair. She’s so relaxed I’m worried she will fall asleep. Rinsing the shampoo from her hair, I reached to shut the water off, squeezed the excess water from her hair, and grabbed a towel to dry it. The day is finally catching up with her. I can feel her exhaustion. I dry her body quickly, using a different towel, and leave her leaning against the shower wall while I dry myself off and then I lift her into my arms. Carrying her to the bed, I lay her down and cover her over with the sheet. She doesn’t stir, her breathing is even and her whole body lax. She looks so peaceful, so angelic. She’s something that I don’t deserve, but I will never let her go now. Her stomach growled and I head to the kitchen to make her a sandwich for when she wakes up. Grabbing a bottle of water as well, I head back to her and climb in beside her. She isn’t the only one wiped out. My whole body is aching. We both need a couple of hours sleep to recharge. I slip my hand under her head and pull her back into my body. She sighed, a little puff of air escaping her lips and she pushed her arse back into my thighs. My cock grew hard, but I ignored it. I will take my mate when she wakes up, but now, sh
e needs rest, especially with what is coming. Closing my eyes, I let sleep take me knowing Milly is safe in my arms. From now on she always will be. There isn’t a chance in hell I will ever let anyone take her from me again.

  Chapter Four

  Deacon

The phone call came at six thirty in the morning. The one I knew would happen but I wasn’t ready to lose my alone time with Milly just yet. I sighed. Jaxon and the pack needed my help. There had been a sighting of Simon close to Jaxon’s house. He’d been alone but with the mole still out there, we couldn’t be sure that they didn’t have something planned. I brushed my hand across Milly’s shoulder lightly. She moved into my caress, a small sigh escaping her lips. I hated to wake her when she looked so peaceful but we had to go. It is my duty to protect the pack. I have to lend my support and my abilities to the search. I try to clear my mind, the more anxious thoughts I have, the more likely she will notice them. So far, I’ve managed to keep her from seeing too much but now we’ve made love and mated it will be a struggle to protect her from the worry. I can already feel our bond growing, the connection we already had was strong but now my abilities and my wolf are imprinting on her. I don’t think it will be long before she starts having certain abilities herself and that scares the shit out of me. I want to be with her, I’m certain I couldn’t live without her, but I never wanted her to be bonded to me. I’m a beast, a hybrid, a creature of the night.

“Baby, wake up.” I said quietly. Her eyelids flickered and then opened to reveal her sleepy eyes. “We have to go back. Jaxon just called, he needs my help. There’s been a sighting of Simon and they need my help to hunt him.”

“Ok.” She said and I feel her disappointment.

“You know we have to finish this. He’s dangerous.”

“I know I just wish we could have hidden out for a bit longer.”

“Me too, but we need to neutralise the threat. Also, we need to look for somewhere to live.”

  “We do?”

“I’m guessing you’ll want to live near Sierra and I need to start acting like I’m part of the pack again. It’s been too long since I connected with them.”

  “I would love that.”

  “Good. Let’s get dressed then.”

“I’m going to need to borrow some clothes.”

  “I’ll find you something.”

“I should shower too. I feel a bit tender.”

“I wish we had time for me to join you but we don’t. Jaxon sounded worried and that doesn’t happen easily.”

“It’s ok. When this is all over, we can have a bath together. I imagine it will be really fun.”

“It definitely will be and I’ll hold you to that. Now go shower while I pack what we need. I can have someone pop to your home and grab some of your things, but it won’t be yet.”

“As long as I can walk in your clothes without tripping over I don’t mind wearing them.”

“I’ll have a look.” She got up off the bed and I’m astounded at just how beautiful she is. My mark on her shoulder is red but it will heal faster than the bruises the bastards who kidnapped her put on her delicate skin. Was it really, only yesterday that I’d saved her from them? It felt like an age ago. My wolf whimpered at the sight of my mark and I shushed him. Finally, we’d reconnected and I could feel his strength running through my veins. I’d denied him because I’d believed myself to be too contaminated to be at one with him, but I was wrong to do that. He is me, and I am him, we will always be one. Milly closed the door behind her and I shook myself out of my thoughts. I’ll find her some clothes to wear and make her coffee for the ride. We needed to get a shift on. I’m the best tracker we have and I don’t want to risk his scent getting cold. We couldn’t afford for Simon to be out there any longer because for all the decent vampires out there, there are some who crave more power and if Simon can convince them that attacking the pack will give it to them, they won’t hesitate.

  Chapter Five

  Milly

The drive is tense. Deacon seems to be psyching himself up for what’s to come. I can feel his power pushing at me through our connection and I know he’s trying to keep himself under control. I’m worried he’s going to burst a blood vessel or something. He is furious because just as we were leaving, Jaxon rang him to tell him he’d received a text from an unknown number telling him that I would be the one they would grab first because Simon was upset he hadn’t had time to try out my curvaceous body. Gross. First off, who uses that kind of language, and second, why would you try to piss off a powerful hybrid unless you have a death wish. There is no doubt that Deacon is going to track Simon down and rip him to pieces and I only wish I could see it. We’re on our way back to the pack territory so Deacon can drop me off at Jaxon and Sierra’s house. Then, he’s going to help Jaxon weed out the mole in the pack because it turns out that the mole is a shifter. This made things much worse for everyone. Deacon parted ways with the pack after he was bitten so he isn’t as close to them as Jaxon is. He figured it would be easier to find the person himself. And with his new ability to almost drag thoughts from a person’s mind, he will be able to find out straight away. Jaxon has called a pack meeting for when we arrive. I’ve already had my orders not to leave Sierra’s side once we are there. I would usually object to hiding away but this was real shit I definitely didn’t want to get involved in, especially when I hadn’t known this world even existed until I was attacked by a shifter.

“We’re here.” Deacon announced and I looked up.

“It looks different now I’m facing the right way.” I joked.

“Well, last time you didn’t come willingly.” He chuckled. He pulled up outside Jaxon’s house and cut the engine before turning to face me. “I’m sorry I kidnapped you. If I hadn’t then you wouldn’t have been in danger in the first place. You’d still be at home living your life, not knowing vampires even exist.”

“You don’t know that. Maybe they would have found out about me, maybe they wouldn’t have, but you can’t be sorry that the situation turned out the way it has now.”

“I’m not sorry, baby. You’re my mate. It’s how it should be. I just hate the fact that because of it, you’re in danger, again.”

“One day, we’ll leave this all behind and ride off into the sunset.”

“I’d rather just keep you locked up in my house and in my bed for the rest of our lives.” He growled. “My wolf agrees with me.”

  “What about food?” I grinned.

“I’d feed you. You would need lots of energy because I’d keep you busy.”

“There is no way that we could keep making love for that long and not kill each other.”

“Want to bet?” His eyes glittered and his hand lifted to cup my cheek. “I would never get tired of you.”

“I wouldn’t get tired of you either but I’m afraid my body would.”

“You forget that you have shifter healing now. We could go at it for hours and neither of us would break.”

“After all this is sorted, maybe we should test out my new abilities.”

“Once this is all sorted out and Simon has been dealt with, I’m locking you away for a few months so I can keep you out of trouble.”

  “That’s a nice dream.”

“It’s not a dream, it’s a promise. One you can hold me too.”

“I’ll do that.” Something moved in my vision and I tensed.

“It’s only Gabe.” Deacon assured me. “You didn’t meet him when we were here before.”

“I didn’t meet anyone. I didn’t even get a tour of the place.”

  “Don’t remind me.” Deacon growled.

“Sorry.” I said biting my lip.

“I don’t like to remember you in danger. It makes me so furious I can’t think straight and I need to keep my mind clear.”

I reached for his hand and gave it a squeeze. “You saved me Deacon. You should remember that instead of dwelling on the bad.”

  “You shouldn’t have needed saving
in the first place.” He looked up and his gaze locked on Gabe.

I looked in his direction and saw Gabe pale. He’d been the one in charge of my safety at the house but it wasn’t fair to blame him. “Deacon, they had perfume that hid their scent and a mole telling them exactly where to find me. It was no one’s fault.”

He flicked his eyes to me and sighed. “You’re right, I’m just so angry and I need an outlet.”

“Go and find one then.” I said as I let go of his hand and leaned over to kiss his cheek. I gripped the handle and opened the door. Gabe appeared beside me and gave me a smile.

“Hi. Is Sierra here?” I asked him.

“She’s waiting for you in the house.”

“Great. Thanks. Take care of him will you.” I said as I watched Deacon climb out of the car.

“Of course I will. I’ve known him too long to let him do anything stupid.”

“I don’t do stupid things.” Deacon growled.

“You pushed your pack away and became a loner. That was stupid.”

“I was protecting you and the pack.”

“Bullshit.” Gabe growled and I could feel his tension, feel his hurt.

“I think you have some apologies to make, baby.” I smiled softly as I walked around the car to him. “You should do them soon. Life is too short to hurt the people who love us. Haven’t you learnt that yet?” I said as I reached up and kissed his frowning mouth. “I love you.” I whispered softly.

His face softened. “I love you too.”

“Be safe and make sure you come back to me.”

“I will always come back to you.”

“If you don’t I will hunt you down myself.” I tapped my temple. “I feel like I have a tracker in my head that tells me your exact whereabouts.”
